The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Verily, the believers are like bricks of a building, each part strengthening the other"
It has been a few days since the earthquake and the floods have struck Morocco and Libya respectively. Families are being killed whilst many are hospitalized with long term injuries. Thousands have evacuated their homes and many suffering the trauma of displacement.
We at International Waqf and Relief Foundation (IWARF have been on the ground in Morocco since the first day of the disaster and waiting for the permission to get to Libya.
At IWARF, our emergency and relief plan aims to reach minimum of 6,000 affected families in the different areas of Morocco and Libya.
The powerful earthquake quake struck Morocco on the 8th of September killing at almost 3,000 people - death toll that is likely to rise in the days ahead.
Many of the dead are thought to be in remote villages in the High Atlas Mountains, the epicenter of the earthquake. Residents are using whatever equipment they can find as they struggle to reach their neighbors under the rubble.
Blocked roads are preventing ambulances from reaching the wounded, and while officials are scrambling to clear debris, rescue and relief efforts are difficult amid the mountainous terrain, risk of landslides, and large distances.
Historic Marrakech badly damaged
The earthquake, which was felt as far away as Algeria and Portugal, also shook historic Marrakech, the nearest major city to the epicenter. Homes and other buildings in the UNESCO World Heritage Site have collapsed.
Aftershocks have left families too frightened to seek shelter, with exhausted survivors forced to sleep in the streets.
Occurring just 11 miles beneath the surface, the shallow earthquake was magnitude 6.8, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
